Where to Stay in Noord-Holland for Beth Hart at AFAS Live

A practical guide to basing yourself in Amsterdam or beyond for a December 2026 concert at AFAS Live, with real neighbourhoods, transport times and price bands.

Basing yourself near the venue: Amsterdam Zuidoost and the Bijlmer

AFAS Live sits on the ArenA Boulevard in Amsterdam Zuidoost, next to the Johan Cruijff ArenA and a short walk from Bijlmer Arena station. For a one-night concert trip this is the most practical base: you can walk to the doors in under fifteen minutes from most hotels around the boulevard, and trains from Amsterdam Centraal take about fifteen to twenty minutes. Expect roughly 110 to 180 euros for a mid-range double on a concert night, higher if a football fixture at the ArenA falls on the same weekend. Book early; December weekends fill fast.

The wider Bijlmer area is less scenic than the canal ring but genuinely convenient. Hotels along the boulevard and near Holendrecht station tend to be cheaper, sometimes 80 to 120 euros, at the cost of a metro stop or two on line 54. I would book the boulevard cluster for a single concert night and skip the temptation to stay in the centre and commute back late, since the last convenient trains run before midnight and the walk from Bijlmer Arena is straightforward and well lit.

The canal ring and Centraal: atmosphere with a commute

If the concert is part of a longer Amsterdam visit, staying in the canal ring makes more sense. From Centraal, a train to Bijlmer Arena takes around fifteen minutes, and metro line 54 from the station runs direct to the venue in roughly twenty minutes. Hotels around the Nine Streets, Rembrandtplein and the Plantage district give you museums, restaurants and walks along the Amstel, at 150 to 250 euros a night for a decent double in December.

My pick here would be the Plantage or the eastern canal belt: quieter than Leidseplein, close to Artis and the Hermitage, and an easy walk to Centraal or to Waterlooplein metro for the venue. Skip the Red Light District hotels if you want sleep after the show; the streets stay busy well past midnight, and the price you save rarely matches the noise. Also skip anything far out along the ring road relying on a single bus line.

Haarlem, Zaandam and the smaller towns

Noord-Holland extends well beyond Amsterdam, and a December concert pairs neatly with a night in Haarlem. Trains from Haarlem to Amsterdam Centraal take about fifteen to twenty minutes, then continue to Bijlmer Arena, so door to door you are looking at around an hour. Haarlem hotels around the Grote Markt and the station district run roughly 100 to 160 euros in low season, and the town itself rewards an extra day with the Teylers Museum and the Frans Hals Museum.

Zaandam is the cheaper option, with trains to Amsterdam Centraal in about twelve minutes and a striking hotel cluster beside the Zaan river. Expect 90 to 140 euros. Alkmaar and Hoorn are lovely but too far for a concert night: allow ninety minutes or more each way. If I were booking, I would take Haarlem for a two-night stay and Zaandam only if the budget is tight and the trip is short.

Timing, tickets and what to book first

The date is 1 December 2026, a Tuesday, which helps: hotel rates that week are usually below the Christmas peak, and the city is in early-winter mode with lights up and museums quiet on weekday mornings. Check the official Ticketmaster page for doors, seating and any premium-seat details rather than relying on secondary listings. Book the hotel before the ticket resale market heats up; the ArenA Boulevard cluster is small and concert nights sell out first.

For a single night, stay in Zuidoost. For a weekend, stay in Haarlem or the Amsterdam canal ring and travel in. Skip airport hotels near Schiphol unless you have an early flight: the train to Bijlmer Arena is quick, but the transfer at the airport adds hassle after a late show. Wherever you base yourself, buy an OV-chipkaart or use contactless bank cards on NS trains and GVB metro.

Questions answered

How do I get from Amsterdam Centraal to AFAS Live?

Take a train to Bijlmer Arena, about fifteen minutes, then walk five to ten minutes to the venue. Alternatively, metro line 54 from Centraal runs direct in roughly twenty minutes. Allow extra time on concert nights.

Is it worth staying in Haarlem for the concert?

Yes, if you want a quieter base and a second day of museums. Trains to Amsterdam take fifteen to twenty minutes, and the onward journey to Bijlmer Arena makes it about an hour door to door. Book a hotel near the station.

When should I book a hotel for December 2026?

Book as soon as your ticket is confirmed, ideally six to nine months ahead. Concert nights around the ArenA Boulevard fill first, and December weekends in the canal ring rise steadily. Check the official site for event details before finalising travel dates.
