Muiden is a small fortified harbour village where the Vecht meets the IJmeer, dominated by the Muiderslot — the best-preserved medieval castle in the Netherlands and a genuinely rewarding visit. Practicalities
Everything in Muiden is walkable — village to castle is 5 minutes, harbour to bus stop is 3 minutes. The Herengracht and the streets around the church are the most attractive. Muiderberg 3 km east has a beach on the IJmeer and a few more accommodation options.
