Day 1: NEMO and Artis, Amsterdam
NEMO Science Museum (€19.50 kids under 4 free) is the giant green ship-shape building near Centraal Station. It is designed for ages 6-14 and holds them for 3 hours easily. Chain reaction machines, bubble labs, a working ball run. Lunch on the roof terrace which has free entry even without a ticket. Afternoon at Artis Zoo (€27 adult, €24 child), 20 minutes walk east. The aquarium is indoor and the giraffes are outdoor, which covers weather. Sleep at Hotel Casa Amsterdam on Eerste Ringdijkstraat, which has family rooms and a tram to both venues.
Day 2: Zaanse Schans and pancakes
Train to Zaandijk Zaanse Schans (17 minutes). Kids like the clog-making demo they might otherwise cringe at; it is 15 minutes and free. Climb inside De Kat paint mill (€5.50) if they can handle steep ladders. Lunch at De Kraai pancake house on the site. Afternoon, walk to the Verkade chocolate and biscuit exhibit at the Zaans Museum (€13.50 adult, €7.50 child), which has hands-on stations.
Day 3: Texel or the beach
In summer, day trip to Zandvoort (30 minutes from Amsterdam Centraal by direct train). The beach south of the boulevard has shallow gradient and lifeguards. Pavilion Tijn Akersloot has a kids menu and beach toys to borrow. If you have a car and 2 nights, drive to Texel instead: the Ecomare seal sanctuary (€15.50) at De Koog is the reliable hit, plus sheep farms where kids feed lambs in April and May. Sleep at Landal Beach Park Texel or Grand Hotel Opduin.

What ages does this suit?
Roughly 5 to 12. Under 5s will struggle with NEMO's older exhibits; teenagers will find Zaanse Schans quaint at best. Adjust days 1 and 2 accordingly.
Are strollers manageable?
In Amsterdam yes, but cobblestones in Zaanse Schans and dune paths on Texel are hard work. Bring a small folding buggy, not a full pram.
