The three real risks
One: bike theft. If you rent, use two locks and never leave anything on the bike. Two: pickpockets on tram 2 and 5, at Centraal Station, and around Damrak — normal European tourist-hub level. Three: e-bike and scooter collisions. Bike lanes are aggressive; look BOTH ways as a pedestrian and never wander into red-painted paths. This causes more tourist injuries than anything else.
Nightlife and drugs
The Red Light District is heavily policed and safer than it looks. Don’t photograph windows — you’ll be shouted at or worse. Coffeeshops are legal, regulated, and safe. Buying from a street dealer outside a coffeeshop is not — those are almost always scams or fake drugs. Never do that.
