Van der Valk Amsterdam-Amstel has the biggest urban pool in the province at 20 meters, and rooms start around $140 in the shoulder months. Skip the small hotel pools around Zaandam that are basically 8-meter plunge pools — you’ll wait 20 minutes for a lane. Book pool-inclusive rates rather than the day-pass add-ons, which run $25 extra at most Van der Valks.
Family-friendly with pool
Landal Beach Resort Ooghduyne near Den Helder has a shallow kids' pool with slides and a separate 18-meter lap pool — the best split for families I’ve found on the coast. Rooms and cabins run $160-$220. Center Parcs Park Zandvoort is the obvious pick if you want the tropical dome pool with wave machine, but it's a village not a hotel and you’re locked into a stay of at least 3 nights. Worth it if you have kids under 10.
Overrated pool hotels to skip
The pools at NH Amsterdam Zuid and DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station are tiny — 10 meters, no sauna, and packed by 5pm. You’re paying $220 a night for a hot tub with pretensions. If you specifically want to swim in Amsterdam, book an Amstel-area Van der Valk and taxi in ($18-$25 each way).
