Where the room layout actually works

Movenpick Amsterdam City Centre has family rooms with a separate bunk-bed alcove for kids, sleeping 2+2 from around €280. Hotel Jakarta Amsterdam does one-bedroom suites with a proper sofa bed and pool access — from €340 but the price includes breakfast for four. Landal Beach Park Texel isn’t a hotel but rents two-bedroom beach houses from €140/night off-season, and it's the honest best answer for families of four wanting space.

In Zandvoort, NH Zandvoort has connecting rooms you can book as a set — cheaper than a suite and quieter because the kids get their own door. Zuiderduin in Egmond has family suites that sleep five with a mezzanine level, from €240 including the indoor pool complex, which is the actual reason to go.

The city options and the compromises

Amsterdam is hard for families because rooms are small and canal houses have narrow stairs. Sir Adam Hotel in the A’DAM Tower has family suites with sofa beds and river views from €320. Andaz Prinsengracht has one-bedroom suites but they’re expensive and the sofa bed is a squeeze. Skip Amsterdam Marriott and Hilton for families — they have the space but zero character, and you might as well be in Frankfurt.

One honest tip: apartment rentals (via legitimate channels — Amsterdam has strict short-let rules) often work better than hotel suites for four-plus. But if you want hotel service, the connecting-rooms approach at NH properties is the most reliable route.
